Homeless Emergency Declared in Hawaii

By: Greg Botelho

On Friday the governor of Hawaii signed an emergency proclamation to fix the number of people without homes in the state. With 7,620 homeless people and 465 people per 100,000 citizens, Hawaii has the highest rate of homelessness in the country. The proclamation would like to allow $1.3 million to solve the problem in the state by setting up shelters and eventually a housing facility for all families. I chose to read this article and wrote about it because i wondered if the issue was due to a storm or something else occurring in the state. I also see homelessness in many other states around the country and i wondered about the problem in Hawaii as well as the other states in the country. CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE

5 Soldiers Killed in Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan

by Ralph Ellis

The helicopter crash was not due to a hostile incident. Ten soldiers, most of which were with the U.S., were involved in a helicopter crash today in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, five troops were killed in the crash and the other five suffered injuries. I chose this article because when I read the headline I was interested in reading more about the crash and learning about the details. I wanted to see if there were more people involved and how the helicopter had crashed. CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE

By: Greg Botelho

Around 3pm on Wednesday a call came in about a man who had shot himself. The police of Wilmington, Delaware arrived and asked the man who was in a wheel chair to put his hands up and drop his weapon. When the man did not obey the officers request, he was shot and killed by the officers. The victim mother believes that the shooting was unjust. The police chief, Bobby Cummings said the officers were concerned that the man might fire his weapon when he began to reach for his waist and remove the weapon. The victim was 28 years old and he was paralyzed from his waist down. I chose this article because i was interested to read the full story of what occurred because of all the debate there has been in the past months about police officer firing their weapons when they some believe they should not have. CLICK HERE FOR ARTICLE

2024 Olympics: Five Cities in the Running to Host Games

By: Chris Murphy

This article is about the five cities in the running to host the 2024 Olympics. Los angles, Rome, Paris, Budapest, and Hamburg are all contenders in the running. Hungry is the only country that has never hosted the Olympics and Germany only hosted them in Munich not Hamburg. Los Angles stepped in for Boston after the city could not be in the running anymore, LA is a strong contender because they would not have to build a new venue because the city already has many facilities that can be used. Rome was in the running to host the 2020 Olympics but had to drop out due to economic difficulties and they are now running for 2024. Paris has failed to be the host cities three times but has hosted the games twice already. Budapest would only be the second city to host the games in Eastern Europe, Moscow being the first. Weather Hamburg stays in the running is up to the residents of the cities, if they vote no on hosting the games Hamburg will be pulled out of the running. I chose this article because the Olympic games are something that interests me and i could like to see them be hosted in the United States in 2024.CLICK FOR ARTICLE

by Sarah Jorgensen

The article is about workers at the Newark Airport. Out of the nine who were in the hanger when it collapsed, four were injured but it was reported that they were able to walk out of the hanger. The hanger that collapsed had not been used for about a decade and there were no airplanes inside of it. The event occurred Wednesday afternoon at the New Jersey airport. The article did not include information as to what caused the hanger to collapse or why the it happened.  I chose this article because after reading the headline i was curious as to what caused that hanger to collapse. CLICK HERE TO READ FULL ARTICLE
